While tanks proudly paraded down Washington’s shiny avenues in honor of President Trump’s birthday and the Army’s 250th anniversary, thousands of Americans paraded themselves into parks and plazas with witty signs and serious frowns.

Dubbed the “Split-Screen Saturday,” America witnessed a celebration of military muscle in one corner—and a peaceful rebellion with cardboard slogans in the other. One protester claimed, “I couldn’t hear the fighter jets over the sound of my rights evaporating.”

Meanwhile, Trump reportedly smiled and waved from a tank hatch, possibly mistaking the distant chants for birthday wishes.
