In a summer plot twist nobody asked for, the U.S. government has declared a health emergency over a spike in dengue fever cases, typically found in tropical climates. Turns out, the only thing that immigrated successfully this year was the mosquito.

Public officials urge Americans to use mosquito spray, avoid standing water, and maybe stop turning up the thermostat so high that even the bugs think it’s Bali.

Meanwhile, mosquitoes are living their best lives, throwing pool parties in backyard birdbaths.

New public health campaign: “Don’t get bit — spray it, slap it, scream at it.”
